An unmissable evening for folk fans at Exeter Library

Posted on 20 Sep 2023

A folk trio and an award-winning soloist are promising an autumn evening of wonderful music at Exeter Library.

Hands of the Heron will  be gracing the Exeter Library Stage on Friday 6th October, 7.30 – 10.30pm (doors open at 7pm) as part of the library’s ongoing series of after-hours music and creative events.

The Bristol trio of Bec Garthwaite, Bethany M. Roberts and Claire Vine deliver instantly-recognisable vocal harmonies and a mercurial sound that moves effortlessly between sparse choral folk and spellbinding chamber pop, richly layered with an assortment of strings, drones and reeds.

They’ll be supported by pastoral folk and blues guitarist Ben Morgan-Brown who won FATEA’s Instrumental Album of the Year 2021, and Instrumentalist of the Year 2022,

Ben’s compositions for solo acoustic guitar have been described as “guaranteed to please fans of the English folk guitar” (TradFolk), “serene, mesmerising” (Bright Young Folk), and “as good as minimalist folk gets” (Louder Than War).

Exeter Library Senior Supervisor Chris White said: “This promises to be an evening that folk fans can’t miss. It’s just one of an increasing number of live music events that we’re holding in the library, that have become a loved part of our cultural season series too. The space lends itself really well to welcoming artists to perform, and the dates are proving popular.  ]The Library is steadily becoming a fixture of? the live music calendar in Exeter, , offering affordable tickets and a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy some top notch entertainment. We bring people together all day during regular library opening hours, and it’s a pleasure to be doing the same in the evenings!”

Tickets for the event cost:  General: £10, Concession (U18, O65, student, disabled): £8 – book via Eventbrite (which will include a small booking fee), in person at the library, or over the phone on 01392 407 027. Refreshments on the night will be available from Bar Nova.
