Discover Hidden Talents at Libraries’ Fun Palaces

Posted on 04 Oct 2023

On Saturday 7th October, libraries across Devon and Torbay will open their doors for free, fun and creative events as part of the annual Fun Palaces weekend of celebration.

Fun Palaces are all about bringing people together to share their skills, passions and interests with others. The events are entirely created by local community members, and everyone is welcome.

Sadie Green, Fun Palace Ambassador for Devon, said: “Libraries are the perfect venue for Fun Palaces, already being welcoming hubs at the heart of their communities. Library staff work with customers to hand over library spaces for the weekend. Then, local volunteers run the show, deciding on activities and making them happen.”

“We have some really exciting activities lined up this year, including Kendama, gilding and zentangles at Barnstaple Library and a big Show and Tell event with knitting, dance and RAF history at Exeter Library. At Tavistock library, spend a lively morning admiring their infamous Fun Pants! All while experiencing the fun of meeting new friends and discovering a new passion for arts, science, crafts and all things creative. The goal is to build connections between neighbours and celebrate the knowledge and talents within Devon’s diverse communities.”

Best of all, every Fun Palace event is completely free to attend. All anyone needs to join in the fun is curiosity and community spirit. Whether you want to share a skill or simply try something new, Fun Palaces offer a welcoming, inclusive space to participate.

This October, head down to your local library’s Fun Palace for a free, fun and community-focused weekend. To find a Fun Palace near you, visit funpalaces.co.uk.
