Arts Award Discover, is the first level of Arts Award, a set of awards for children and young people that gets them involved in and excited about arts and culture and celebrates their creative achievements.

Daniel Clark, Creative Director at Evolve for Libraries Unlimited said ‘Arts Award Discover at Home is a fantastic way for children to be rewarded for the creative activities they enjoy. You can even get a certificate! At this time, it feels even more vital to highlight new ways to deliver the award remotely and engage families creatively online.’

Our Discover at Home page gives families free access to a fun selection of creative activities that include easy-to-follow guidance and utilise everyday materials found in most homes. The activities are perfect for keeping children engaged in the arts and boosting their creativity while they are learning at home. Discover at Home is a great option for parents & carers who may not be arts specialists themselves or are looking for something different to keep children engaged and entertained. The activities on offer include Puppet Making with Tessa Bide (all you need is newspaper and masking tape!), Match box book making with Claire Barker (the clues in the name), recycled sculpture with Darrell Wakelam and many more.

Discover at Home enables children to be rewarded for the creative activities they enjoy. If young people would like to apply for an official Arts Award Discover certificate, they will need to complete one of the activities and submit evidence to Libraries Unlimited via the website. There is a small charge to cover the cost of the certificate and postage.  Families are welcome to use the resources to structure creative activities at home, without the need to achieve a certificate.

Sarah Waller from Real Ideas Organisation said ‘It’s been great working with Libraries Unlimited and the Evolve team in supporting local artists to create this material and young people to have the opportunity to engage in Arts Award Discover at Home’.

Arts Award is a nationally recognised qualification that helps young people aged 5 – 25 to explore their creative skills, and to develop as artists and arts leaders, formal certification is run by Trinity College London.

Libraries Unlimited is the charity responsible for running Devon and Torbay Libraries. Arts Award Discover at Home is just one of the activities in the wide Libraries Unlimited cultural offering.  Evolve is an imaginative programme of innovative events, cultural experiences and new artworks delivered in partnership with artists and communities and funded by Arts Council England and Exeter City Council.
