Three Ways To Celebrate World Book Night

World Book Night falls on the 23rd of April, and it’s all about grown-ups finding joy in reading and improving adult literacy. This year it’s especially exciting as 2026 is the National Year of Reading in the UK. The theme for the year is Go All In, explore your interests through reading! Whatever excites you, be it history, cooking, or even art – read into it.

Can’t get to the library? Access BorrowBox with your library card and PIN for free access to digital copies of books, audiobooks and magazines.

Here are three ways you can celebrate World Book Night:

  1. Join The #ReadingHour

Read during the #ReadingHour between 7 pm and 8 pm. It doesn’t have to be a physical book or magazine. Why not pop on a free BorrowBox digital audiobook as you cook supper or clean up, or cosy up on the sofa with a digital magazine to unwind?

  1. Recommend A Read

Share a read with a friend or family member. Have you recently loved a book, article or audiobook? Send it to someone on World Book Night and tell them why you enjoyed it.

  1. Line Up Your Next Story

Visit the library to borrow a book or order your next read from our catalogue. Not sure what to read next? Check out recommendations from library staff and customers here.

Twelve of our libraries are offering a book giveaway in partnership with The Reading Agency to celebrate World Book Night 2026. Find out more here.
