Our Fundraising Champions
Looking for some fundraising inspiration?
We are incredibly grateful to everybody who fundraises for Libraries Unlimited, helping us to continue to provide safe and supportive environments where our local communities can thrive. Fundraising goes far beyond just raising funds – it helps raise awareness of Libraries Unlimited as a charity, empowers others to take part and is another wonderful way to connect with each other.
Together, we can (and do) make a marked difference to the lives of those around us.
You can also support our current fundraisers below, who are busy gearing up for their upcoming challenges!
From bake sales to marathons, and everything in between – we have some wonderful stories from previous fundraisers.
Kevin’s Two Moors Way Challenge
‘This September, I will be attempting to walk coast to coast along the Two Moors Way, a challenging 117-mile route that spans from Wembury on the south coast of Devon, traverses the stunning landscapes of Dartmoor and Exmoor and finishing at Lynmouth on the north coast. I know from the feedback I receive every week how much our users value our service. I hope my stroll across Devon will raise a few pounds to help this service continue.’
Andy’s 100km Thames Path Challenge
‘Having started working for Libraries Unlimited just over a year ago it’s great to see the work that goes on in 54 libraries across Devon and Torbay. I’m raising money to buy more book stock for the libraries to help them continue the great work they do.’
Rebecca and Susie’s Cycling Challenge
Rebecca works in Seaton Library where she met Susie six years ago: ‘because of her autism and communication difficulties we initially interacted via notes. We became friends and have been cycling locally together since early this year.
When out on our biking adventures, I will be supporting her making sure she is safe on the road so that we can go for longer rides, and I am her ears and her mouthpiece.
Getting out on our bikes is a great way for us to get fit and enjoy the freedom of cycling. We share a sense of fun and a love of the natural environment.
On this upcoming 3 day, 80 mile cycle challenge we will enjoy exploring our beautiful English countryside and quaint Somerset villages, while raising money to support the library. We feel that libraries play a big part in enhancing people’s wellbeing and improving lives.’
Kerry’s Exeter Half Marathon Challenge
Kerry is the Supervisor at Ottery St. Mary Library.
She said: ‘Working in a library offers me a unique perspective on the impact libraries have on people’s lives. Our books unlock new worlds—children find magic within the pages, and they serve as companions for adults. But libraries are about more than just books. We provide so much more—a community space, baby weigh-ins, Bounce & Rhyme sessions for toddlers, IT resources, a chat over a cup of tea, Lego clubs and craft groups for school-aged children, holiday activities, book clubs, and various craft groups.’
Churston Library’s Epic Jigsaw Challenge
We are running a Giant Jigsaw Challenge to raise funds for our library’s new Community Area. We have set apart an area in the former IT corner of the library, for our groups such as Knit & Chat, Friday games, Ukulele and Reader’s Group to sit in comfort. Regular customers will also be able to sit comfortably and read the paper in peace, without too much library traffic going past.
We hope to make this area welcoming and more cosy, we need some folding screens to make it quieter for our groups, and will also be working towards the Winter Warms Spaces #LibrariesForLife project. This will enable us to create a warm, safe space for people to relax in during cold days.
The challenge is to complete a 5,000 piece community puzzle by 30th September. Anyone is welcome to drop in and help with the puzzle during opening hours, why not join the fun?!
