EnchanTales | Emma Hughes

EnchanTales, a captivating community art project created by Bristol-based artist Emma Hughes, invited children and families to step into a world where stories and fairytales were brought to life through the touch of a hand.

Using projection mapping software and conductive ink technology, this unique project transformed simple paper and touch into interactive, screen-less magic.

EnchanTales was initially installed at Exeter Library as part of the 2019 Summer Reading Challenge, where young visitors explored space-themed stories and adventures.

The project was later showcased in Bideford and Barnstaple Libraries, where local children contributed their creativity to animate their favourite childhood stories.

The magical animations hidden within empty picture frames were brought to life by young people from the Creative Hub at Knowle West Media Centre, whose artistic input was crucial to the project’s success.

At the heart of EnchanTales was the idea of collaborative creation.

Local young artists in Bideford and Barnstaple not only engaged with the project but played an integral role in designing the animations that appeared in the frames.

Their talent and imagination brought to life beloved stories, creating a truly community-driven experience.
