Cultural Credits bring creative engagement to every library in Devon and Torbay, ensuring our library communities have access to inspiring high-quality arts and cultural experiences which are free or low-cost.
Cultural Credits is funded by the Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation funding that Libraries Unlimited receives and delivered by the Creative Communities team.
Cultural Credits programme has three seasons per year:
Our workshops and events help people discover and develop new skills, connect with others, and feel better in themselves. Thanks to the creativity of our artists and the support of our library team, communities are inspired to explore their own creativity.

Key achievements in first two years 2023-25
Our programme celebrates creativity across a wide range of art forms, including live music and storytelling performances, visual art, theatre, dance, and sculpture workshops. Highlights include the showing of Neville Connor’s play Farewell Jamaica at Okehampton and Moretonhampstead Libraries, both sell-out events that resonated strongly within their communities. We’ve also offered a whole host of hands-on, participatory workshops, such as printmaking with Double Elephant, which engaged primary school students in Sidmouth and Honiton. Artist Anna Boland led family-friendly clay sculpting sessions, while Megan Dowsett invited participants to create natural arrangements using shells, pebbles, pinecones, and other materials transforming library spaces into immersive, nature-inspired patchworks.
After a family friendly creative musical performance and workshop with musician Laura Loft, Torrington supervisor, Kate Greaves said: “One parent on leaving the venue was heading straight to the local music shop to buy a tambourine, such was his son’s enthusiasm.”
Faye Edge, Library Supervisor at Teignmouth reflected on her weaving workshop with Freya Gronrow: “It was a fantastic event! Such a great atmosphere in the library. It was lovely to see the community coming together and some faces we had not seen in the library before. Such a mix of participants, and such a lovely buzz of enthusiasm and intrigue filled the room.”
