We address the digital divide and support the local economy
Work clubs
We run work clubs in Bideford, Barnstaple, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Crediton, Cullompton, Tiverton, and Tavistock Libraries. These all offer support with CV writing, developing skills and applying for jobs. Additional support sessions have been held for Ukranian refugees, supported by The Community Renewal Fund Digital Devon Project.
Workshops and IT drop-in sessions
Workshops and IT drop-in sessions are held in most of our libraries where anyone can drop-in for friendly support and advice.
Newton Abbott Library also hosts Barclays once a week offering a Digital Wings Programme to boost digital skills and confidence.
Free and unlimited access
Your library membership gives you access to a wide range of digital facilities and resources, from free computer and internet access, to eBooks, audiobooks and magazines.
Libraries form an integral part of digital inclusion support in local communities, acting as vital bridges across the digital divide. In an increasingly digitally adept world, we are here to provide the right tools and access for everyone to be able to connect to the wider world.
Impact Story
Hilda came to Work Club in January 2022 as she was not happy in her job. Hilda, who has a learning disability, began attending Work Club every week and enjoyed the relaxed, social environment.
Work Club staff helped Hilda with her CV, then with creating online job site accounts, and placing her CV online. To help her with her digital skills, Hilda was referred to Learn Devon who enrolled her on the Beeline Digital Skills course for beginners and an Interview Techniques course.
The next stage was getting in touch with Next Steps Development, who specifically provide work for people with learning disabilities. Hilda visited their café and diner in Bideford and met with the Supported Employment Administrator. They offered Hilda a part-time role as cleaner, in their Barnstaple Centre, where Hilda is still happily employed.
