Our Libraries for Life campaign

Warm banks

Our Libraries for Life campaign has been instrumental in renewing awareness of the important role that libraries play in communities and in the wider society. The increase in footfall, event attendance and length of time that people spend in our libraries is evidence of the growing need for our services. Last winter we expanded the number of community fridges, hosted warm winter coat rails, opened for additional hours and provided free warm refreshments in many of our libraries.

Impact Stories

This is just to say that I am one of several who have taken advantage of our library opening on unscheduled Monday mornings to welcome (and I do mean that) the older generation in out of the cold. I have very much enjoyed sharing the ‘free’ tea and coffee and biscuits with friends and indeed meeting and making new friends. People do matter. Thank you. Torrington Library customer

I liked that Meet up Monday was on at a specific time every week. I knew that there would always be people there to chat to. I now know people in other groups through Meet up Mondays – through this I have coach trips planned and have even got contacts for local tradespeople. Above all, the library, its staff, volunteers, and facilities have offered me a welcoming space to meet, socialise, enjoy new experiences, and of course read. It has offered support to many people in the community, a warm space and given them a sense of well-being. It has been lots of fun. Please do it again next winter!  Torrington Library customer
