Torrington Mobile Library service is currently suspended due to an out of hours incident

Our Torrington Mobile Library service is currently suspended due to an out of hours incident that has destroyed this mobile vehicle.   

The team at Libraries Unlimited are devastated as this incident will affect the library service to our customers in rural locations and especially for those that may not be able to get to another library.  We are an independent charity, and this incident will also impact us in terms of financial implications,  staff time and resources needed to get our service back on the road. 

Libraries Unlimited Chief Executive, Alex Kittow said, “We are devasted by the news that our much-loved Torrington Mobile Library has been destroyed by fire over the weekend. Understandably this incident has hit the local team particularly hard. They are working to oversee the clean up process as well as informing customers that the mobile library service will be off the road whilst we sort temporary solutions.” 

Alex continued, “We are liaising with the police to establish the cause of this fire, to co-ordinate the removal of the vehicle and ensure a thorough clean-up operation is undertaken.  We will continue to update customers and the team are working on ways to get a temporary service  set up as quickly as we can.”    

Our staff will be contacting customers to update them personally on the suspension of the service and we will be working with partners and other stakeholders to try and identify ways of getting a mobile service back on the road as soon as possible.   

As an emergency measure we will automatically renew books that are due back whilst this service is temporarily suspended.  Customers can also use our online services to access eBooks and eAudiobooks, renew books and browse at devonlibraries.org.uk.
