Discover your family history for free with Ancestry Library Edition

Are you interested in finding out about your ancestors? Would you like to research your family tree? Find out more about your back story. Ancestry Library Edition gives you access to historical records and photos giving you information about your family tree and distant descendants.

You can now access Ancestry Library Edition at home using your Devon Libraries or Torbay Libraries membership card. You can quickly and simply search the records from the comfort of your own home.

Ancestry Library Edition makes tracing your family history easy and accessible for all. Or you may be interested in historical records and Ancestry Library Edition provides a vast archive to explore.

Access to Ancestry Library Edition has been temporarily extended to Devon and Torbay Library members at home, courtesy of ProQuest and its partner Ancestry. Normally only available in libraries or via the library Wi-Fi, home access will be available until the end of April and will be re-evaluated monthly as needed.

To access Ancestry, customers will need to log in to their library account with their borrower card number and PIN and visit the ‘My Profile’ page. They will then be able to see the special link to ‘Ancestry Library Edition’ and start researching their family history.

If you are not currently a member, you can join Devon Libraries or Torbay Libraries online giving you immediate access to Ancestry Library Edition and our full digital library. Once you have completed the online joining form, you will be given a temporary [UNREG] number and PIN which will enable you to access our digital library immediately. As and when our libraries re-open we will process all temporary memberships registered during this closure period and we will issue a library card to you.
