The Gatherers Project: How to make your own pressed flower bookmark

The Gatherers is a heartwarming initiative by Honeyscribe and Libraries Unlimited, based in Braunton, North Devon, that connects local residents and resettled Afghan families through nature and creativity. Participants come together on countryside walks to gather wildflowers, press them, and craft unique bookmarks using decommissioned library books. Each bookmark celebrates community, connection, and the beauty of the natural world.
Led by artist Amy Shelton, The Gatherers encourages wellbeing and cultural exchange through art. Afghan families create and share these bookmarks as gifts tucked into borrowed library books – symbols of welcome and belonging for all.
