After hours party – in Barnstaple Library!

Posted on 21 Feb 2024

Music, a bar, food, games, and a chance to let your creativity run riot is in store at Barnstaple Library when it opens its doors for an after-hours party on Friday 15th March.

Barnstaple’s first Library Lates will take over three floors of the library with festival-style fun between 7 and 10pm.

Jane Petch, Senior Supervisor at Barnstaple Library, said: “Libraries Unlimited has held incredibly successful Library Lates at Exeter, and more recently at Paignton, and we’re really excited that it’s now Barnstaple’s turn. Our library building is perfect for a party. There’s plenty of room to roll out a huge variety of things for everyone to enjoy. There will be a bar, fantastic food, music and lots of creative fun to get involved with. Bring your friends and make a zine, or just make a noise! We’re promising a great, low-cost night out for everyone to learn something new and meet new people. There’s even a free wristband for a proper festival feel!”

Amongst the events will be:

* Beer Matters pop up bar

* Live music under the Reading Tree from local singer songwriter Laura Kate and folk duo Dogleg

* Delicious plant-based food from the Aleafia pop up cafe on the second floor – their sweet potato waffles and wellbeing advice are life changing! (food can be pre-booked and collected on the night)

* Dance the night away on the 3rd floor or chill out with tunes from Barnstaple legend Matt (Discovery Music)

* Join in board games from Dice & A Slice, with Board Game Jimmy and friends

* Try out a virtual reality experience on the first floor with VR headphones

* Join the Gardener’s Collective, making Barnstaple Library’s own seed library

* Disco on the third floor, plus LEGO!

* Get stuck in to zine making with Sam

* Have fun creating using recycled and natural materials with artists Jo & Kash from Gherkin Blue CIC

* Be astounded by origami artist Caroline Preston’s skills and learn some techniques of your own with her

Library Lates will take place on Friday 15th March 2024 between 7 and 10pm at Barnstaple Library, Tuly Street, Barnstaple EX31 1EL. Tickets are £10  to buy in-person from the library, over the phone on 01271 318780, or through Eventbrite. The event is for over 18s only.

Library Lates at Barnstaple Library is part of the Building a Better Tomorrow events season which is being rolled out by Libraries Unlimited with the help of money from Arts Council England (ACE). North Devon was identified as one of ACE’s Priority Places to bring more cultural activity and engagement to the area.
