Cross-art performance featuring live music, dance and local young voices
A unique artistic collaboration is coming to Moretonhampstead as part of a special community performance on Friday 20th June at 6pm. Featuring acclaimed musician and storyteller Marco Woolf and his band, the performance blends music, dance and storytelling. It will also include contributions from local young people due to a workshop on offer ahead of the show.
The event, titled 'dream setting', is being delivered by Libraries Unlimited in partnership with Sound UK and local arts organisation MED Theatre. It is funded by Arts Council England and will take place at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall.
Marco Woolf, a Malawian-born artist known for his poetic lyricism and innovative live performances, will be joined by jazz pianist Tom Harris, electric guitarist Carmel Smickersgill, and dancer Sara Marques. The group will deliver a playful, immersive performance with local teens, exploring dreams and community.
Through a creative workshop, local people aged 12-19 will have the opportunity to collaborate and perform with a nationally touring company, developing their confidence alongside professional artists. This free workshop will take place the evening before the show (Thursday 19th June) and invites participants to get involved, explore performance-making and contribute their ideas.
"We are thrilled to be delivering this creative project, giving those in our local communities the chance to collaborate with professional artists and explore their creative potential," said Rae Hoole, Creative Communities Producer at Libraries Unlimited. "It's not often that opportunities like this come to rural areas like ours, and we hope it inspires young people to see the arts as something that they can be proudly become a part of."
'dream setting' is part of Libraries Unlimited's wider cultural programming, which aims to bring high-quality live performances and arts engagement opportunities to rural communities across Devon and Torbay.
'dream setting' will be performed on at 6.00pm on Friday 20th June at Moretonhampstead Parish Hall, TQ13 8LL. Tickets are £3-£5 and the performance is suitable for adults and young people aged 12+.
